Anambra 2026: Bandits Kidnap INEC Staff in Kogi - The Alternative News

Tension has gripped the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following the abduction of some of its officials by gunmen in Kogi State on Tuesday.

The victims, all female staff members of the commission, were reportedly kidnapped along the Aloma Road while travelling from Abuja to Anambra State on an official assignment ahead of the 2026 governorship election.

According to reports, the assailants ambushed their vehicle, blocked the road, and opened fire, shattering the windscreen. Fortunately, none of the occupants was hit by the bullets.

The INEC officials were said to have been deployed to Anambra to handle the printing of the voters’ register and other materials in preparation for the forthcoming governorship election scheduled for the first week of November.

Eyewitnesses said the gunmen abducted all the passengers in the vehicle, including the driver and his wife.

DAILY POST reports that efforts to reach the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer for comments were unsuccessful, and the whereabouts of the victims remain unknown.

Security operatives are expected to intensify efforts to rescue the abducted officials and ensure the safe conduct of the upcoming Anambra governorship election.
