A somber mood has enveloped the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) following the death of one of its senior directors, Mrs. Serifat Olubukola Talabi, who died in a road accident just four days before her retirement and 60th birthday celebration.
Talabi, who served as the Director of Procurement at LASRRA, was reportedly knocked down by a vehicle on Saturday, October 18, 2025, while crossing the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Camp in the Ibafo area of Ogun State.
She was said to have completed all arrangements for a combined Thanksgiving, Retirement, and 60th Birthday celebration scheduled for Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at the NERDC Conference Centre in Ikeja, Lagos.
Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of LASRRA, Mrs. Basirat Lawal, said the entire agency was still in shock over the tragic loss.
“We are still in shock after receiving the news. She came to the office on Friday, and everything was set for her retirement on October 22. She was supposed to retire on October 13 when she clocked 60, but our General Manager, Mrs. Bilikiss Adebiyi-Abiola, was not around, so we postponed it to October 22. The agency will attend her burial,” Lawal stated.
Talabi, who joined LASRRA in 2018, rose through the ranks and was appointed as a director in 2025. Her colleagues described her as a diligent and dedicated public servant who gave her best to the service of Lagos State.
Her sudden death has left friends, colleagues, and family members devastated, especially as preparations for her retirement celebration had already been concluded.
