Portuguese football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has officially joined the global billionaires’ club, becoming the first active footballer to achieve the milestone, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
Bloomberg, which listed Ronaldo’s net worth for the first time this week, estimated the 40-year-old Al-Nassr forward’s fortune at $1.4 billion, factoring in his career earnings, lucrative endorsement deals, and strategic investments.
The Index credited Ronaldo’s tax-free contract in Saudi Arabia and global partnerships with Nike and Armani as key contributors to his soaring wealth.
Already recognized as the highest-paid footballer in the world, Ronaldo’s earnings received another major boost earlier this year when he signed a two-year contract extension with Al-Nassr, reportedly worth more than $400 million. The new deal will keep him at the Saudi Pro League club beyond his 42nd birthday.
Speaking to Canal 11, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner dismissed suggestions of retirement despite pressure from his family.
“People, especially my family, say: ‘It’s time for you to stop. You’ve done everything. Why do you want to score a thousand goals?. But I don’t think so. I think I’m still producing good things, helping my club and the national team. When I finish, I’ll be fulfilled because I gave it my all. I know I don’t have many more years, but the few I have, I’ll enjoy to the fullest," he said.
Ronaldo, who holds the men’s international goal record with 141 goals in 223 appearances, also received the Prestige Award at the Portugal Football Globes on Tuesday.
“It’s not an end-of-career award,” he noted. “I see it as recognition of years of effort, dedication and ambition. I love winning, helping younger players, and they also help me maintain my level and keep competing. That’s what excites me: competing with the younger ones. I still have passion for this.”
According to Bloomberg, Ronaldo’s net worth, now surpassing $1 billion, cements his legacy not only as one of football’s greatest players but also as one of its most successful businessmen.
