The absence of a medical report from the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) on Wednesday stalled the trial of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, before the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Justice James Omotosho, who presided over the matter, consequently adjourned the trial to October 16, 2025.

The adjournment followed the inability of the NMA to present its medical report on Kanu’s health status as directed by the court.

At the previous sitting, Justice Omotosho had ordered the NMA President to constitute a panel of medical experts to investigate claims of Kanu’s deteriorating health condition.

The medical board was mandated to determine whether the medical facilities at the Department of State Services (DSS) headquarters were sufficient to handle his treatment or if he should be transferred to the National Hospital, as requested by his legal team.

Additionally, the report was expected to assess whether Kanu is medically fit to continue standing trial.

However, during Wednesday’s proceedings, counsel to the DSS, Mr. Suraj S’aad, SAN, informed the court that the medical board communicated that the report was not yet ready for submission.

He, therefore, sought a one-week adjournment to allow the NMA team to complete its findings.

With no objection from Kanu’s counsel, Justice Omotosho granted the request and fixed October 16, 2025, for the presentation of the medical report and continuation of the proceedings.
