The Kano State Shura Council has suspended Sheikh Lawan Triumph from conducting preaching sessions in the state, pending the outcome of an investigation into allegations of blasphemy.

The development follows a directive issued by the Kano State Government on September 26, 2025, mandating that all petitions and counter-petitions regarding Sheikh Triumph’s controversial remarks be referred to the Shura Council for review and advice.

The Secretary of the Council and State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Alhaji Shehu Sagagi, disclosed the decision on Wednesday while briefing journalists on the outcome of the Council’s second meeting.

According to Sagagi, the Council has received several petitions alleging that Sheikh Triumph made offensive remarks about Prophet Muhammad during his preaching sessions. He confirmed that video clips of the sermons have also been submitted and reviewed.

“The Council has resolved to invite Sheikh Triumph to defend himself against the petitions and counter-petitions filed against him. A committee has been set up to formally invite him and communicate the date, time, and venue for the hearing,” Sagagi stated.

He assured residents that the process would be transparent and impartial, stressing that “no individual or group will influence the Council’s decision.”

Sagagi further noted that the outcome of the meetings with Sheikh Triumph would be made public, while urging politicians and Islamic scholars to refrain from making comments or engaging in acts that could tarnish their image.
