The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has announced that Nigerian troops eliminated at least 450 terrorists and rescued 180 kidnap victims during internal security operations across the country in September.

Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Markus Kangye, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, noting that 39 terrorists also surrendered during the month under review.

According to him, the operations were conducted under various joint task forces, including Operation Hadin Kai, Operation Fansan Yamma, Operation Enduring Peace, Operation Whirl Stroke, Operation Delta Safe, and Operation Udo Ka.

Kangye revealed that troops recovered 63 assorted arms, 4,475 rounds of ammunition, and 294 items, such as grenades, improvised explosive device (IED) materials, motorcycles, vehicles, and handheld radios.

He further stated that troops of Operation Delta Safe uncovered and destroyed 41 illegal refining sites while recovering crude oil and products valued at ₦112,175,220 from oil thieves.

“The Armed Forces remain committed to transparency, accountability, and the lawful execution of all missions in accordance with international and domestic rules of engagement,” Kangye affirmed.

He also reassured Nigerians that the military remains resolute in protecting civilians while ensuring the safety and welfare of its personnel.
