Nnamdi Kanu’s Special Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, Collapses in Kuje Prison - The Alternative News

The Special Counsel to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, Aloy Ejimakor, has reportedly collapsed at the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja, barely 24 hours after a magistrate allegedly refused to sign his bail bond.

According to SaharaReporters, Ejimakor fell ill while in custody and was unable to meet with his colleague, Barrister Maxwell Opara, during a routine visit to the facility. Prison nurses were said to have attended to him after he regained consciousness, but his condition was described as deteriorating, raising concerns that he may soon be transferred to a hospital for further treatment.

Ejimakor, alongside 12 others, including Prince Emmanuel Kanu, the younger brother of the IPOB leader, was arrested on Monday by the police during the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest in Abuja.

The group was reportedly teargassed, beaten, and detained overnight at the SARS cell known as “Abattoir” before being transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the FCT Police Command.

On Tuesday, they were arraigned before a Senior Magistrate, Abubakar Umar Sai’id, at the Kuje Magistrate Court without legal representation and subsequently remanded in prison custody.

Sources alleged that the magistrate had granted bail to the accused persons but refused to sign their bail bond, effectively keeping them behind bars.

Also arraigned in the same case was human rights activist and two-time presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, who was released on bail but faces similar procedural delays.

As of Friday, Ejimakor was said to be receiving medical attention at the Kuje prison clinic, where his health condition has continued to worsen.

Neither the Nigerian Correctional Service nor the FCT Police Command has issued an official statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
