The Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps, Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, on Monday night narrowly escaped an assassination attempt by unidentified gunmen in Osogbo, the state capital.

According to the Corps’ spokesperson, Yusuf Idowu Abass, the incident occurred around 10:05 p.m. along Ikirun Road, near the Kobo area beside Charity Hotel, while Omoyele was driving home after closing from duty at the Corps Headquarters.

The assailants, said to be heavily armed and masked, ambushed his vehicle and opened fire, riddling it with bullets. The Commander sustained gunshot wounds but managed to escape the attack and was rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.

Abass confirmed that Omoyele is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed medical facility and is in stable condition under close observation.

He added that the incident has been reported to the Ota-Efun Police Division, and security agencies have commenced a full-scale investigation to track down the perpetrators.
