A tragic road accident has claimed the life of a female lecturer from the Federal University Lokoja (FUL), Mrs. Kemi Emmanuel, of the Department of Theatre Arts.
The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday along the Crusher - Felele axis of the Lokoja - Abuja expressway when Mrs. Emmanuel reportedly fell off a commercial motorcycle and was crushed by a moving articulated truck.
Eyewitnesses said the lecturer, who was riding on an okada, was hit by the truck, causing her to fall onto the road where she was fatally crushed.
Confirming the incident, the Kogi State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr. Tenimu Etuku, described the accident as “very sad and unfortunate.”
“Our rescue team responded promptly and rushed the victim to the Kogi State Specialist Hospital, where she was confirmed dead and the corpse has been deposited in the hospital’s morgue," Etuku said.
The FRSC commander expressed concern over the conduct of the motorcycle rider, who allegedly fled the scene under the pretext of chasing the hit-and-run truck.
Etuku cautioned commercial motorcyclists against competing with heavy-duty vehicles on highways, stressing that such reckless behavior often leads to avoidable loss of lives.
Late Mrs. Emmanuel was described by colleagues and students as a respected and beloved lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts, Federal University Lokoja.
