Army Repels Major Terrorist Attack in Borno, Reaffirms Commitment to Defending Nigeria’s Territory - The Alternative News

The Nigerian Army has repelled a major terrorist assault on communities in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State. The attack, launched by over 300 insurgents around 2:50 a.m. on Saturday, was thwarted by troops of the 28 Task Force Brigade.

In a statement posted on the Nigerian Army’s X handle, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, said troops were already on high alert and detected suspicious movements before the terrorists advanced.

The soldiers quickly took battle positions and engaged the attackers from multiple directions in a fierce firefight that lasted more than two hours. Their swift response prevented the terrorists from breaching the security of the targeted towns.

At daybreak, the insurgents retreated in disarray toward the Azir axis and into the Sambisa Forest, attempting to cross the Damboa–Biu Main Supply Route. Troops of the 25 Brigade, supported by a Nigerian Army Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, intercepted the fleeing terrorists from pre-designated ambush positions near the Azir Bridge.

The Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI also deployed a Super Tucano aircraft to provide close air support for the ground troops.

According to Anele, the terrorists suffered heavy disruption during their withdrawal. She added that the Army recorded no loss of personnel or equipment, a development she attributed to the professionalism and readiness of the troops.

“Operations in and around Chibok are ongoing as the Nigerian Army continues efforts to track and neutralise escaping militants. Footage of the retreating terrorists is being analyzed for further operational planning,” the statement noted.

The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity and ensuring the safety of its citizens.
