Police Confirm Abduction of Two Persons in Kogi as Security Agencies Intensify Operations - The Alternative News

The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of two individuals following an attack by suspected bandits along the Sanlu–Idofin road in Yagba East Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s spokesman, Chief Superintendent of Police William Aya, disclosed the incident late Saturday while responding to journalists’ enquiries. He said the attack occurred earlier in the afternoon.

According to Aya, three people were travelling in a vehicle when they were ambushed. One of the victims, identified as Raji Adesukanmi, managed to escape, while the other two were abducted. He did not provide additional details on how the incident unfolded.

Aya stated that the state Commissioner of Police has deployed a tactical team, including the Quick Response Unit, Anti-Kidnapping Squad, and Police Mobile Force, to the area to ensure the safe rescue of the victims.

The Sanlu–Idofin axis has witnessed several kidnapping incidents in recent times, extending into parts of Kwara and other North Central states.

The latest abduction comes days after the Nigerian Army confirmed the rescue of five kidnapped victims in two coordinated operations carried out by troops of the 12 Brigade around the Isanlu–Egbe area of Yagba East on November 29, 2025.

According to the Army, four civilians were abducted in the first incident and another in a separate attack. Troops mobilised swiftly to both scenes and engaged the kidnappers with superior firepower, forcing them to flee and abandon all five victims, who were rescued unharmed.

The Brigade, under the leadership of Brigadier General Kasim Sidi, reaffirmed its commitment to securing lives and property across Kogi State, adding that troops will continue robust patrols to deny criminal elements operational space.

PUNCH Online had earlier reported the abduction of 38 worshippers during a bandit attack on Christ Apostolic Church, Eruku, in Kwara State, an incident that claimed two lives. The victims were freed two days later.
