The Sisters of Jannah (SOJ) Abeokuta zone carried out its annual Cancer Awareness Program at Sa'adatul Abadiyyah Organization of Nigeria, Central Mosque, Abeokuta Branch, Ogun state. The event aimed to raise awareness about breast and cervical cancer, their causes, symptoms, prevention, and treatment options.
Dr. Sherifat Aminu, former Coordinator of the Zone, spoke extensively on breast and cervical cancer, emphasizing the importance of early detection and screening. She highlighted common causes of cancer, including hereditary factors, hormonal disorders, early menstruation, alcohol consumption, and exposure to X-ray machines.
Dr. Aminu also encouraged attendees to get vaccinated against Human Papillomavirus (HPV), a major cause of cervical cancer, and urged parents to vaccinate their daughters. 'The HPV vaccine has been proven safe and effective in preventing cervical cancer' she stressed.
The National Missioner of Sa'adatul Abadiyyah Mosque, Alhaji Ismail Abdullateef, commended SOJ for their unique way of propagating Islam through charitable efforts, which he noted are an important pillar of Islam. He expressed appreciation for the organization's commitment to raising cancer awareness and providing support to those affected.
"I have heard so much about SOJ group, and I highly admire and appreciate their courage, commitment and dedication even in this hard time. I pray for Allah's continuous protection and sustenance over you all, I beseech Allah SWT to rectify your ways too and accept this from you as an act of Ibadah. Jazakhumllah Khairan for coming and we hope to see more of you" he concluded.
Additionally, concerns were raised about vaccine hesitancy, with some people fearing negative effects. Dr. Aminu reassured attendees that the HPV vaccine has undergone rigorous testing and is evidence-based.
