Former Governor of Kogi State, Captain Idris Wada, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a major realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Wada received his APC membership card on Saturday during a brief ceremony at his residence in Odu, Dekina Local Government Area.

His media aide, David Alfred-Dogwo, described the move as a significant milestone in the former governor’s political career, noting that Wada’s entry into the ruling party would further strengthen the APC’s presence in Kogi East.

“The brief but significant ceremony marks Capt. Wada’s formal entry into the APC and signals a new chapter in his political journey,” Alfred-Dogwo said.

He added that the event, attended by party leaders, supporters, and well-wishers, would “bolster the APC’s position in Dekina and support the party’s preparations for upcoming polls, including President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.”

Wada served as governor from January 2012 to January 2016 on the platform of the PDP. His attempt to secure a second term in 2015 ended after a turbulent election cycle that led to a supplementary vote.

The initial November 21, 2015 governorship election was declared inconclusive. A day later, APC candidate Abubakar Audu died suddenly, prompting the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to fix a supplementary poll for December 5, which eventually produced Yahaya Bello as governor.

Wada’s latest move marks his final break from the PDP and adds a fresh twist to the political dynamics of Kogi East, as parties intensify early positioning for the 2027 general elections.
