A housewife, Mrs. Success Adeniken, has begged her husband for forgiveness after she was arrested by the police for allegedly faking her own kidnap to extort money from him.
According to a Daily Trust report on Thursday, Mrs. Adeniken admitted to orchestrating the fake abduction with the help of her neighbour, identified simply as Martins.
She disclosed that Martins, who owns a shop beside hers, initially hesitated when she shared the plan but later agreed to assist. According to her, Martins was not present during the staged abduction but participated in making the ransom call before leaving.
Mrs. Adeniken further explained that she was unaware her brother had been arrested until she was also taken into custody. She said she learned at the police station that he had confessed to the crime and implicated her.
The suspect expressed deep remorse over her actions, admitting she was ashamed and did not realise the gravity of her offence. She said her intention was to find a way out of her financial troubles.
“I have begged my husband to forgive me. I don’t want to go to jail because of our children,” she pleaded.
Mrs. Adeniken added that she has learned her lesson and only wants to reunite with her family.
