ADC Condemns Tinubu Administration Over U.S. Airstrikes in Sokoto, Calls It ‘Historic Incompetence’ - The Alternative News

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly criticised the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following the December 25, 2025 airstrikes carried out by the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) in Sokoto State, describing the incident as a reflection of what it termed “historic incompetence” by the federal government.

In a statement issued on Friday and made available to Naija News, the opposition party, through its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said while it welcomes all lawful efforts aimed at protecting Nigerian lives, the involvement of a foreign military in direct combat operations on Nigerian soil exposes serious failures in governance and national security leadership.

According to the ADC, the airstrikes represent an unprecedented development that underscores the Tinubu government’s inability to effectively address the country’s worsening security challenges.

The party warned that allowing external forces to conduct direct military operations within Nigeria is neither sustainable nor in the country’s long-term strategic interest, noting that such actions could undermine Nigeria’s sovereignty and regional standing.

The ADC also questioned Nigeria’s actual role in the reported “collaboration” with AFRICOM, insisting that Nigeria should not be reduced to a passive or informant role in security operations that it ought to be leading.

It therefore demanded full clarification from the federal government on key aspects of the operation, including who had operational control, the number of casualties recorded, and verifiable details regarding the identity and number of terrorists allegedly neutralised during the strike.

The party further cautioned against what it described as confusing “collaboration” with “myopic surrender,” expressing concern over the government’s handling of information surrounding the operation.

In addition, the ADC criticised the persistent framing of the war against terrorism in religious terms by the United States, warning that such narratives pose serious risks to Nigeria’s national unity and social cohesion.
