The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has firmly denied reports suggesting that it has released the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 General Election.
In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser to the INEC Chairman, Mr. Adedayo Oketola, the commission described the claims as false and misleading, stressing that no timetable or schedule of activities has been released for the 2027 polls.
INEC explained that it operates strictly within the provisions of the law, particularly Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022, which mandates the commission to publish a Notice of Election not later than 360 days before the date appointed for a general election.
“Any timetable or schedule issued outside this statutory framework cannot emanate from INEC,” the statement said.
The commission assured Nigerians that the official timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 General Election will be released in due course, in full compliance with the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and the Electoral Act, 2022.
INEC added that when the timetable is eventually released, it will be communicated through the commission’s official and verified channels.
The commission urged members of the public and the media to disregard the fake reports and rely solely on INEC’s official platforms for accurate and authoritative information.
