News of Destiny Boy’s death emerged on Sunday following the circulation of distressing videos on social media showing his body being transported to a mortuary, triggering widespread grief and speculation over the cause of his death.
In one of the videos, the late singer was seen lying in the back of a vehicle with cotton wool placed in his nostrils and ears.
Amid the speculation, an unidentified associate of the artiste released a separate video, stating that Destiny Boy had been battling a private health challenge before his death.
“God, I want to do this video before people start saying rubbish about Destiny Boy’s cause of death. We all came to this life to write our own history. May God rest his soul. Destiny was nursing a health issue in his body before he died. We tried for him, but he didn’t make it,” the associate said.
Born Afeez Adeshina, Destiny Boy began his music career at a young age and became known for his unique Fuji-infused sound. He started at T2 Boys Studios in Agege, Lagos, where he worked as a backup dancer for Fuji star, Pasuma.
He gained widespread recognition in 2019 after releasing a Fuji-style cover of Davido’s hit song If, which went viral on social media. He also released covers of songs by Tekno, 2Baba, 9ice and Small Doctor.
The late singer released several songs during his career, including Lamba, One Transaction, Gbese, Billion Dollar, Mio Gbonkankan and Lowkey.
Destiny Boy and his partner, Iremide, welcomed their first child in November 2024. The police said further updates would be provided as investigations continue.
