The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) has been lauded for its conduct of free, fair and credible elections in the State.
The Chairman of Yewa North Local Government, Dr. Olusola Akinbode, gave the commendation at a stakeholders meeting in Ayetoro, ahead of the forthcoming bye-election to fill the vacant councillorship seat in Ohunbe Ward, occasioned by the demise of the former Councillor, Hon. Emmanuel Opeisa
Represented by his vice, Hon. Olumide Ilori, noted that the transparency and professionalism displayed by OGSIEC during the last local government elections had strengthened public confidence in the electoral process, urging concerned stakeholders to sustain the culture of peaceful participation in the forthcoming poll.
Also speaking, the Olohunbe of Ohunbe, Oba Oladokun Adekola, commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for the relative peace and stability enjoyed across Ogun State, particularly in Yewa North. The monarch equally commended the Council Chairman for his leadership, calling on the State government to sustain ongoing infrastructural development, while pledging the unflinching support of the traditional institution and the people of Ohunbe to the government at all levels.
Earlier, Chairman of OGSIEC, Mr. Babatunde Osibodu, represented by the Commission’s Legal Affairs Commissioner, Mrs. Remilekun Olaopa, announced February 21, 2026, as the date for the conduct of the bye-election in Ohunbe Ward.
She assured stakeholders that the commission was fully prepared to deliver a credible, transparent and peaceful election.
In his own remarks, the Electoral Officer in charge of Yewa North, Mr. Olubori Akinleye, urged political parties, candidates and members of the community to conduct themselves peacefully to have an acceptable result.
In their separate remarks, representatives of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the People Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Moses Adegbite and Hon. Kolawole Durosinmi, commended OGSIEC’s level of preparedness and pledged the cooperation of their parties to ensure the successful conduct of the election before, during and after the exercise.
Other stakeholders present at the meeting including; representatives of APC and PDP, community leaders, security agencies, electoral personnels in charge Yewa North, Ohunbe ward and local government officials.
