The Labour Party (LP) has declared that it is open to all Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Abia State Deputy Governor, Ikechukwu Emetu, stated this while addressing party leaders during the presentation of a report on the party’s ongoing membership drive.
The exercise was organised by the Nenadi Usman-led National Caretaker Committee. Emetu said the Labour Party remains committed to building a broad national movement that accommodates Nigerians from all backgrounds and political persuasions.
According to him, the party does not discriminate based on status or political history.
“The Labour Party is a party for all, irrespective of who they are,” Emetu said.
He added that the party’s vision is national and not limited to any group or region, stressing that LP is open to everyone willing to identify with its ideals.
“The Labour Party is a national party and not a cult group where people are restricted from joining,” he said.
Emetu further stated that even the incumbent President is welcome to defect to the party if he chooses.
“Even Mr President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, can decide, on or before the 2027 elections, to join the Labour Party, and we will gladly accept him,” he added.
He reiterated that openness remains a guiding principle of the party, describing LP as “a party for everybody.”
Meanwhile, party officials at the meeting described the ongoing membership revalidation and e-registration exercise as a crucial step toward rebuilding the party’s structure nationwide ahead of future elections.
