Excitement filled the air in Abeokuta South Local Government Area as the newly reconstructed Lantoro–Oke Yidi Road was officially commissioned, a development expected to boost commerce, improve mobility and enhance safety across the corridor.
In his welcome address during the commissioning, the State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, described the road as a strategic economic asset that would positively transform the daily lives of residents and business owners. He stressed that modern road infrastructure was critical to economic growth, noting that improved road network would reduce travel time, cut transportation costs and enhance access to markets, schools, healthcare facilities and employment centers.
The Commissioner explained that the Lantoro–Oke Yidi Road that linked the Neuropsychiatric Hospital (Annex) and connected Abiola Way to Isale Ake would also serve as a vital alternative route during traffic congestion on major highways within Abeokuta.
The Member representing Abeokuta South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Afolabi Afuape, hailed the project as a game-changer for the community, stating that it would ease transportation challenges, stimulate local businesses, strengthen security and improve residents’ overall quality of life.
Making his royal endorsement, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba (Dr.) Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, described the project as a clear example of responsive and collaborative governance, urging citizens to safeguard public infrastructure.
Stakeholders and residents echoed similar sentiments as the Chairman of the Riders and Owners of Motorcycles Association, Otunba. Sotayo Rasaq, said the once dilapidated road had long increased transport fares and vehicle maintenance costs. “This intervention has brought relief to operators and commuters alike,” he said. Also making a remark, a trader, Mrs. Abimbola Adesanya, said the reconstruction was a lifeline that would bring back commercial business activities to traders in that area.
With its commissioning, the Lantoro–Oke Yidi Road is set to serve as a catalyst for economic activity and smoother traffic flow, reinforcing the Ogun State Government’s drive toward sustainable infrastructure development.
