Ogun @ 50: Carnival Train Set to Roll, Creating Unity, Cultural Awareness | The Alternative News

As part of activities marking the 50th Anniversary of Ogun State, the State Government has announced a grand Carnival Train procession designed to celebrate culture, unity and development.

Speaking with Journalists in Abeokuta, the Honorable Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Oluwasesan Fagbayi, stated that the event, specifically aimed at creating excitement and reminding citizens that the State was not only about work, but also about cultural celebration and shared identity that would in turn boost culture and tourism awareness in the State.

He noted that the carnival train would be a procession of six colourful floats, each showcasing the State’s four regions, Remo, Ijebu, Yewa, Egba (RIYE), while the fish float would represent the riverine areas of the State.

Stating also that the train would include over 3000 Ogun indigents from the 20 Local Governments areas of the State as well as traditionally dressed dancers, drummers, masquerades, folklore skaters, Bikers and other performers, creating a festive atmosphere that reflected the rich history of the State.

He assured that adequate security and welfare arrangements would be put in place to ensure the safety of all participants and spectators, adding that the train would be expected to move from Valley View Court, through Oke-Ilewo, pass  through the under bridge and continue through Iwe-Iroyin, before terminating at the Moshood Abiola Sport Arena in Abeokuta.

The Commissioner revealed that the carnival intended to wrap up activities of the State celebration at 50 was part of a broader plan to make cultural celebrations an annual event in the State and to position Ogun as a major destination for cultural tourism in Nigeria.
