Ogun Philanthropist Marks 58th Birthday with Sick-Bay Donation, Support for 400 Pupils | The Alternative News

The Founder of the Less Privileged Children Encouragement Initiative (EI), Dr. Rotimiolu Akinlesi, has marked his 58th birthday anniversary with the donation of a sick-bay and distribution of educational materials to over 400 pupils in Abeokuta and Ososa, Ogun State.

The two-day outreach programme, held between February 26 and 27, was carried out alongside his wife and co-founder, Dr. Bukunola Akinlesi, and other volunteers.

Beneficiaries were drawn from St. Joseph’s RCM Primary School in Isabo, Abeokuta; St. John’s Primary School, Ososa; and St. Thomas Primary School, also in Ososa.

As part of the intervention, EI donated and commissioned a sick-bay at St. Thomas Primary School. The facility was inaugurated by the Gbegande of Ososa, Oba (Dr.) Toyese Alatise, who commended Dr. Akinlesi for his selfless philanthropy despite being a civil servant.

In addition, 24 pupils of St. John’s Primary School whose uniforms were torn received new uniforms. A total of 228 pupils across the three schools, 88 at St. Joseph’s (51 boys and 37 girls), 83 at St. John’s (44 boys and 39 girls), and 57 at St. Thomas (27 boys and 30 girls), were also provided with new school sandals and other essential materials.

The monarch urged other well-meaning individuals to emulate the gesture and contribute to the welfare of underprivileged children in society.

Speaking separately, Dr. Akinlesi and his wife expressed appreciation for the support received during the outreach and reaffirmed their commitment to impacting lives through consistent interventions for vulnerable children.

They emphasized the need for individuals to look beyond personal needs and extend support to the less privileged.

The initiative has recorded several interventions between 2024 and 2025, including the provision of water facilities to LG Primary School in Magbon, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area; donation of a sick-bay to Molipa Primary School, Ijebu-Ode; and distribution of uniforms and learning materials to pupils of UBE Model Primary School, Olorombo, Abeokuta.

According to the organization, it has supported over 200,000 children across several states in Nigeria and is currently sponsoring 52 students, including undergraduates.
