Operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun, have rescued three nurses abducted by suspected terrorists at a primary health centre in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The Corps Commander, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, confirmed the development at the agency’s headquarters, stating that the health workers were freed at about 4:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Adeleye also disclosed that Amotekun operatives earlier rescued a 45-year-old man and his 15-year-old son, who were kidnapped on Friday evening in the Pelebe community along Oda Road, Akure.
According to him, the father and son were abducted between 7:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., but were successfully rescued around 1:00 a.m. after a confrontation with the kidnappers.
“The three health workers abducted earlier were also rescued at about 4:30 a.m. and are currently receiving treatment at the Amotekun health facility,” Adeleye said.
Reports indicate that the nurses were taken during an attack on a government-owned primary health centre in the Oke Ijebu area at about 2:00 a.m. Armed assailants reportedly arrived in a bus, forced their way into the facility, and abducted the nurses on duty, while other staff escaped.
A witness said the victims were bundled into the vehicle and driven to an unknown destination before their eventual rescue.
The Amotekun commander reassured residents of the state government’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging members of the public to support security agencies with timely and credible information.
