The Routine Immunization (RI) Champions in ttẹ 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Ogun State have commenced advocacy, sensitization in communities and religious institutions as well as outreaches across the State.
The champions, who were recently inaugurated by the State Primary Health Care Developed Board (OGPHECADED) with the support of Pathfinder International were saddled with the responsibility of mobilising support for the acceptance of Human Pappilomavirus vaccination and othet RI antigens to boost coverage.
Two of the champions, Mrs. Oluwakemi Balogun and Kehinde Othame, while speaking during a community outreach on HPV vaccination and mothers' role, in Ikenne LGA emphasized on the importance and benefits of the vaccination.
The duo encouraged parents, guidians and caregivers to make their wards available for the vaccination at the appropriate pediod in the Primary Health Centres across the State, noting that it is free, safe and effective.
Also, the Champion for Ewekoro Local Government Area, Mrs. Waliyat Odemakin during an entry meeting and enlightenment of learners on safety of HPV vaccination in Itori, described the champions as volunteers who were determined to support government at all levels, development partners and Non - Governmental Organizations at ensuring that eligible children and teenage girls of 9 years old are Immunized against vaccine - preventable diseases such as humam papillomavirus, polio, diphtheria, measles, among others.
Mrs. Odemakin stated the champions have been complementing the efforts of health workers in their assigned LGAs to sensitize community members for improved health outcomes in the State.
Also, the Champion for Yewa South and Odeda LGAs, Revd. Eniola Samson and Alhaja Olusola Saeed respectively during a sensitization meeting with monarchs, Baales and community leaders held at Ilobi palace and Opeji ward , stressed the need for them to propagate government health - intervention programmes in their respective domains for the wellbeing and wellness of the children and people of the areas.
On her part, the Champion for Ifo and Abeokuta South LGAs, Mrs. Adebimpe Olusile and Alhaja Rashidat Gbadamosi respectively, during an enlightenment on HPV vaccination and other antigens at Community Primary School Olose and Oke-Ẹ̀fọ̀n community, informed that girl children of 9 years old should take HPV vaccination to protect them against cervical cancer in future.
Other Champions include, Alhaji Waheed Adeyinka for Ado- Odo/ Ota, Mrs. Olufunmilayo Olatunji Yewa North, Mrs. Oyindamola Alaga, Ijebu North, Mr. Olufemi Olusola, Ipokia, Alhaji Isiaka
Onifade, Imeko Afon, Mrs. Bose Adewole, Sagamu, Omo'ba Fola Omokayode, Abeokuta North, Rev. (Dr) Femi Olajide, Abeokuta South, Alhaji Abdrafiu Adeniji, Obafemi Owode and Mrs. Olasunbo Bamidele-Nelly, Sagamu.
The remaining Champions are Mrs.. Afolasade Folorunso, Ijebu Ode, Mrs.
Oyinade Adeeko, Ijebu North East, Mr. Moore Aregbesola, Ijebu East, Mrs. Olanike .OlokoOgun Waterside, Mrs.
Omoyẹni Adewole, Remo North, Apostle Sunday Adenusi. Ijebu North East .Mrs. Abisola Jinad,Odogbolu,, Mrs Funmilayo .Alabi, Ifo and Mr. Sunday Akinola, Ogun Waterside LGAs.
