Oluwo Predicts Nigerians May Seek Tenure Extension for Tinubu Beyond 2027 | The Alternative News

The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has predicted that many Nigerians may call for a constitutional amendment to allow President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to remain in office beyond the constitutionally stipulated two-term limit.

The Osun State monarch made the assertion in a congratulatory message issued in commemoration of the president’s 74th birthday.

Describing Tinubu as a decisive leader, Akanbi said the president is laying a renewed foundation of hope for the country.

“Many Nigerians may call for a constitutional review to enable Tinubu to serve more than two terms in office. He is a leader who knows what he is doing,” the monarch stated.

The traditional ruler commended the administration’s reform-driven approach to tackling Nigeria’s economic challenges, noting what he described as improvements in key economic indicators.

He cited the strengthening of the naira and a significant rise in Nigeria’s foreign reserves, which he said increased from about $1 billion to between $49.5 billion and $50.45 billion as of late February and March 2026.

Akanbi also praised the federal government’s policy on local government autonomy, noting that it has enhanced governance at the grassroots level and increased financial allocations to states.

In addition, he lauded ongoing infrastructure projects across the country, particularly the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road and the Sokoto-Badagry Road.

“You are not yet a capable leader until you take decisions and stand by them. Many past presidents attempted to remove obstacles to economic prosperity but were overrun by public outcries,” he said.

“Tinubu has demonstrated uncommon leadership through reforms.”
