SUBEB Receives CSN, Underscores Its Importance | The Alternative News

By Gafar Alabi,

The Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has underscored the importance of Information Technology (IT) in teaching and learning across public Primary Schools in the State.

Chairman of the Board, Evang. Olalekan Ifede, made this known while receiving the executive members of the Computer Society of Nigeria (CSN), Ogun State Chapter, in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, where he noted that IT compliance was essential in today’s globalised world, stressing that no individual or institution could make meaningful progress without embracing technology.

“When you talk about a trader, even the use of a mobile phone is IT compliance. We want to move further; that is why it is for everybody. Nobody can move forward without it. When I was at TESCOM, I facilitated the IT department,” Ifede said.

Highlighting the Board’s achievements in the area of Information Technology, the Chairman assured the society of SUBEB’s support and cooperation. He added that the Board was making deliberate efforts to ensure that basic education in the State is technology-driven, pointing out that the State had established a smart school in Ikenne.

Earlier, Ogun State Chairman of CSN, Mr. Olatunde Tijani, explained that the purpose of the visit was to familiarise the association with the Board and seek its support. He described the association as the umbrella body of IT professionals, including experts in Computer Science, Information Technology, and other related disciplines.

Tijani described the Ogun chapter as one of the most vibrant in the Federation and assured the Board of its readiness to partner with SUBEB in delivering cutting-edge solutions to its activities, noting that the society was prepared to design programmes that would positively shape the lives of young learners.

He further urged the Board to allow Public Primary School pupils to participate in competitions organised by the society, adding that such initiatives would help shape their future and enhance their understanding and effective use of Information Technology
