Tinubu Promises 1,500MW Boost to National Grid | The Alternative News

Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured Nigerians of imminent improvement in electricity supply, pledging to inject 1,500 megawatts into the national grid to address persistent power outages.

Speaking at the National Convention of the All Progressives Congress in Abuja on Friday, the president acknowledged widespread public frustration over declining power supply but expressed confidence that ongoing interventions would stabilise the sector.

Tinubu disclosed that the planned increase in generation capacity would be delivered through the Grid Asset Management Company, with a focus on strengthening transmission and distribution networks.

“Electricity will become better, and we assure you there will be opportunities and progress in our industrialisation. Through the Grid Asset Management Company, we will inject approximately 1,500 megawatts into a new grid corridor,” he said.

The president maintained that his administration’s reforms are beginning to yield results, despite criticism from opposition groups. He stated that Nigeria is transitioning from “survival mode to stability,” citing improvements across key sectors.

Since assuming office in 2023, Tinubu has implemented major economic reforms, including exchange rate unification and the removal of fuel subsidies, policies that have generated mixed reactions amid rising living costs.

He, however, insisted that the country is on a steady path to recovery, pointing to renewed investor confidence, increased foreign interest in the oil and gas sector, and a Eurobond issuance reportedly oversubscribed by 400 percent.

Tinubu also referenced Nigeria’s removal from the financial grey list as an indication of improving global credibility, assuring citizens that current policies will deliver long-term economic stability and growth.
