The All Progressives Congress (APC) has revised its timetable for the 2027 general elections, postponing its presidential and governorship primaries.
Under the new schedule, the party’s presidential primary, earlier slated for May 15 and 16, will now hold on May 23, 2026, while governorship primaries have been rescheduled for May 21, 2026.
The APC Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Duro Meseko, disclosed the adjustment after the party’s 186th National Working Committee meeting held in Abuja on Thursday. He explained that the changes were necessary to ensure compliance with the Constitution, the Electoral Act 2026, and the timetable issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
According to Meseko, the sale of nomination forms will begin on April 25 and end on May 2, while submission of completed forms will close on May 4.
He added that screening of aspirants for various positions, including governorship and legislative seats, will take place between May 6 and May 8, while presidential aspirants will be screened on May 9. Results of the screening are expected on May 11, with appeals scheduled between May 12 and May 13.
Further outlining the timetable, Meseko said House of Representatives primaries will hold on May 15, followed by Senate primaries on May 18. State House of Assembly primaries are fixed for May 20, ahead of governorship primaries on May 21, while the presidential primary will conclude the process on May 23.
He noted that post-primary appeals will commence immediately after each exercise, culminating in the presidential appeal process on May 25.
The APC spokesman stated that the party has adopted both direct and consensus options for selecting candidates, in line with the Electoral Act, adding that aspirants are free to choose their preferred method. Where consensus fails, the process will automatically revert to direct primaries.
Meseko dismissed allegations that nomination forms would be restricted to selected individuals, insisting that all interested aspirants would have equal access.
In a related development, the party released a separate timetable for ward, local government, and state congresses in Zamfara State, with activities set to begin on April 28, including screening and appeals within the same period.
Meanwhile, INEC has fixed January 16, 2027, for the presidential and National Assembly elections, while governorship and State Assembly elections are scheduled for February 6, 2027.
The commission had earlier directed that all party primaries must be conducted between April 23 and May 30, 2026. It also set August 19, 2026, as the commencement date for campaigns for presidential and National Assembly elections, while governorship campaigns will begin on September 9, 2026.
