Bala Mohammed’s Planned Defection to APC Collapses | The Alternative News

The proposed defection of Bala Mohammed from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has collapsed following disagreements over power-sharing arrangements in Bauchi State.

Sources indicated that negotiations broke down after the APC leadership rejected a proposed 60–40 formula that would have allowed the governor’s faction to retain majority control of party structures from ward to state level.

Speaking to journalists, Sama’ila Burga, chairman of the Turaki-led PDP faction in the state, said the APC was unwilling to accommodate the governor’s political structure.

According to him, the discussions involved top APC figures and were initiated through the governor, with Abba Yusuf also reportedly playing a role in efforts to facilitate the move.

“This is how it has been done in other places where governors defected to APC. They rejected this formula and we have closed that discussion,” Burga stated.

He added that after consultations with stakeholders, the PDP faction resolved to formally end the negotiations.

“After careful consideration, the conditions collectively advanced were not accepted by the APC leadership. The discussions have not yielded a conclusive outcome and are hereby formally discontinued,” he said.

Despite the failed talks, the governor’s camp signalled openness to exploring alternative political alignments, noting that consultations are ongoing.

The faction stated that it is actively considering “all available political options” outside the APC as political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections begin to take shape.
