Four members of the House of Representatives from Kano State have defected from the New Nigeria People’s Party to the African Democratic Congress, citing internal instability and leadership crisis within their former party.
The lawmakers — Sani Wakili (Minjibir/Ungogo), Muktar Zakari (Tarauni), Umar Datti (Kura/Madobi/Garun Mallam), and Abdulhakeem Ado (Wudil/Garko) — announced their resignation during plenary on Wednesday, April 22, 2026.
In separate letters addressed to the Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, the lawmakers confirmed their decision to join the ADC, describing it as a coalition platform better positioned to serve their political aspirations and constituents.
Similarly, two other members of the House announced their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
They are Chinedu Martins, representing Ahiazu Mbaise/Ezinihitte Federal Constituency in Imo State, and Kabiru Amadu, representing Gusau/Tsafe Federal Constituency in Zamfara State.
Both lawmakers attributed their decision to the lingering internal crisis within the PDP, while expressing appreciation to the party for the platform it provided them.
They added that their move to the APC would enable them to better serve their constituents.
