A new faction has emerged within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), deepening the party’s internal crisis and raising fresh concerns over its leadership structure.

The faction, led by Don Norman Obinna, has rejected the authority of the David Mark-led coalition and distanced itself from the group associated with Nafiu Bala.

According to the group, it represents the legitimate National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party and has stepped in to oversee its affairs ahead of the next national convention.

Addressing journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, the faction questioned the legitimacy of the former leadership under Ralph Nwosu, stating that his tenure ended in August 2022.

“The tenure of Ralph Nwosu, who handed the party to the David Mark group, had ended in August 2022, and afterwards, he had faced a series of litigations due to his failure to step down,” the group said.

The faction also clarified the status of Nafiu Bala, insisting he never held the position of National Vice Chairman.

It further affirmed that Dumebi Kachikwu remains a member of the party.

The group disclosed that interim leaders have been appointed to manage party activities and ensure continuity pending the conduct of a national convention.
