The recruitment of officers into the basic grade levels of civil/public service has been described as a clear understanding that an effective workforce is fundamental to achieving the developmental objectives of the Governor Dapo Abiodun led administration.
The Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya made this known in his address while declaring a 2-day orientation and induction programme for newly recruited officers into the basic grades of the civil/public service held at the Obas' complex, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.
Mr. Onasanya said that the State which is widely regarded as one of the most efficient and forward looking public service in the federation attained the position through a well grounded veritable progress made over the years with sustained reforms, commitment to professionalism and continuous investment in capacity building.
The number one civil servant emphasized that the two-day orientation and induction programme is designed to formally integrate the new entrants into the esteemed service, equip them with requisite knowledge and prepare them for effective performance in their respective roles.
"The leadership of Prince Dapo Abiodun continues to prioritise the strengthening of the civil/public service through his strategic response to the increasing demand of governance by expanding staff strength which is seen as a demonstration of his foresight and commitment to efficiency in service delivery" Mr. Onasanya said.
He reiterated the commitment of Government to developing a workforce that is competent and ethically grounded in the rules, regulations and operational procedures that guide the civil service.
The Head of Service urged the participants who have been drawn from all Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Government to internalise the core values that define the civil service as they begin their journey into the service and allow integrity, accountability, transparency, diligence, discipline and respect for due process be their guiding principles in their day to day activities as civil servants.
He emphasised that the civil service remains the engine room of Government and it's effectiveness is largely determined by the quality and commitment of its workforce which the inductees are part of the structure and hence the need to contribute their quota and assured them that Government would continue to prioritise their welfare and development.
In her welcome address, the Permanent Secretary in Bureau of Establishments and Training, Mrs. Lydia Fajounbo said the orientation programme is necessitated by the observations made overtime which proved that many new recruits into the civil service have no little knowledge of the core values and attributes of the service.
She said that the programme marked the beginning of the participants journey in the civil/public service and they must see it as important for them to start on a solid foundation because the programme would offer them the skills and tools needed to succeed in the journey, adding that the Bureau has assembled resource persons with logical experiences that would take them through critical sessions.
In their separate goodwill messages, the Permanent Secretaries in the Bureaux of Public Service Reforms, Mr. Jola Oyeneye, State Pensions, Mrs Arinola Adetayo and Local Government Pensions, Engr. Olufisan Osiyale encouraged the participants to prepare to take advantage of the induction programme which they would be taken through by some of the best and competent hands in the civil service as a privilege to be equipped for their career in the civil service.
They enjoined them to develop good characters, build relationships, team spirit and be transparent in all that they do.
