An Ogun State governorship aspirant, Iyabo Obasanjo, has suspended her ambition following the emergence of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 election.
Obasanjo announced her decision in a statement issued on Monday, citing the outcome of a party caucus meeting held in Abeokuta, where Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, was adopted as the preferred candidate.
“I congratulate him and wish him every success. I also thank the state and national leaders of our great party for the opportunity to participate in the nomination process,” she said.
“Based on these developments, I have decided to suspend my gubernatorial aspiration.”
She expressed appreciation to her supporters across Ogun State for their loyalty and encouragement throughout her campaign, urging them to remain steadfast as the political process continues.
Adeola, who represents Ogun West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, emerged as the party’s consensus candidate at the meeting held at the APC secretariat in Abeokuta.
