The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has announced the deployment of over 57,000 personnel across the country to enhance security during the Easter celebrations.

The mobilisation, approved by the Commandant General, Abubakar Audi, is aimed at safeguarding lives, property, and critical national infrastructure throughout the festive period.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Corps’ National Public Relations Officer, Afolabi Babawale, said the operation spans all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. He noted that the deployment includes specialised tactical units and intelligence operatives positioned to proactively address potential security threats.

According to Babawale, high-risk and high-traffic locations, including churches, shopping centres, parks, and recreational facilities, will be placed under strict surveillance. Both overt patrols and covert operations are expected to be intensified to deter criminal activity.

He explained that zonal commanders, state commandants, and provosts have been directed to coordinate comprehensive security strategies within their jurisdictions, while maintaining close collaboration with other security agencies.

“Our goal is a seamless and secure Easter season. We are working hand-in-hand with sister agencies to maintain order,” Babawale said, urging parents and guardians to ensure proper supervision of their children to prevent any disruption of public peace.

The NSCDC also confirmed that specialised units such as the Special Intelligence Squad, Mining Marshals, Special Female Squad, and the Crack Squad have been placed on maximum alert for rapid response.

The corps called on members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government has declared Friday and Monday as public holidays to mark the Easter celebration.
