The Supreme Court of Nigeria has dismissed another appeal filed by a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Tanimu Turaki.

Delivering its ruling on Thursday, the apex court held that a party in contempt of a subsisting court order lacks the legal standing to approach another court.

“A party in contempt of a court order does not have the right to approach another court. Appeal is hereby dismissed,” the court ruled.

The decision followed an appeal by the Turaki-led faction seeking validation of its November 2025 national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The appeal was dismissed in a split decision of 3-2 by the justices.

The ruling comes shortly after the Supreme Court nullified the same convention, which had produced a factional national executive led by Turaki.

In the earlier judgment, read by Justice Stephen Adah, the court held that the convention was conducted in defiance of a valid order of the Federal High Court, delivered by Justice James Omotosho.

The apex court further faulted the Turaki-led group for approaching another court of coordinate jurisdiction to obtain an order instead of filing an appeal, describing the move as an abuse of court process.

The judgment affirms earlier decisions which declared the convention invalid for violating subsisting court orders, bringing an end to the prolonged legal dispute surrounding the exercise.
