President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Mr. Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of Power, subject to confirmation by the Senate.
The nomination was conveyed in a statement issued on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, the nomination has been transmitted to the Senate for screening and confirmation in line with constitutional provisions.
The development follows the resignation of the former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue elective office.
Mr. Tegbe, an indigene of Oyo State, is a fiscal and economic reform expert with over 35 years of experience across the public and private sectors. He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led initiatives in fiscal policy reform, institutional transformation, and governance.
He is currently the Director General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), where he oversees efforts to strengthen development cooperation between Nigeria and the People’s Republic of China.
The NCSP also coordinates engagements with public sector stakeholders to advance economic and social development in alignment with the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) objectives.
Tegbe’s experience includes key engagements within the power sector, particularly in regulatory and institutional reforms involving agencies such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET).
The presidency noted that his nomination is expected to strengthen ongoing reforms in the power sector, improve grid stability, and attract sustainable investment in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that, upon confirmation, Tegbe will deploy his extensive expertise to advance critical reforms and deliver improved outcomes in Nigeria’s power sector.
