We're Bringing More Legacy Projects to Schools - Ogun Education Commissioner | The Alternative News

In the interest of Prince Dapo Abiodun led-administration in Ogun State, to further upgrade schools facilities for continuous academic standards, it has ordered the Principals of its 86 Flagship Secondary Schools to do needs assessments of facilities in their various schools.

Speaking in Oke-Mosan during a Strategic Meeting with Zonal Education Officers across the 20 Local Government Areas of the State and principals of the Flagship Schools, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology in the State, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu said another reason for the upgrade and provision of facilities is to adequately reposition and fortify secondary school systems for excellent academic activities.

Prof. Arigbabu recalled that the present administration in the State had set aside some schools, tagged them flagship schools, to serve as models for others in terms of students population control, class management, supplies of digitalised teaching gadgets, conducive learning environments, and many more.

The Commissioner warned the principals to desist from any activities capable of lowering the standards of education in the flagship schools, emphasising that transfer into those schools was not allowed in any form and at any level.

Commissioner Arigbabu charged the principals to be creative, forward looking, proactive and as well come up with innovative ideas that can single out their schools, promising that the government in its repositioning agenda will not leave any stone unturned in all schools, whether flagship or not.

"We are bringing legacy projects to all schools, projects such as well equipped science laboratories with smart equipment, furniture, libraries, buildings, interactive boards, modern toilets, solar power and many more. But that would be based on the needs of each school.

"We are piloting with the 86 flagship secondary schools, thereafter, we shall focus on other schools too. Our focus is to retain the legacy of our founding fathers on education and to make our schools serves as models for other schools in other States", Arigbabu noted.

Speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Oluwatosin Oloko appreciated principals for being the agents of repositioning initiative and in their various schools, noting that through the supervision of the Commissioner, more transformative policy and projects have been carried out in all schools, most especially the Flagship Ones.

In his appreciative notes, the President of All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPPSS), Mr. Alaba Olugbewesa  enjoined his colleagues to rise to the Clarion calls by the Commissioner towards conceptualising ideas that can earn their schools pride of place.
