The Super Eagles have been drawn against Madagascar national football team, Guinea-Bissau national football team and Tanzania national football team in Group L of the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
The draw ceremony was held in Cairo on Tuesday.
Nigeria will face familiar opponents, having met Guinea-Bissau multiple times in recent years, including during the 2021 AFCON group stage and the qualifiers for the 2023 edition. Both sides were also drawn together at the tournament in Côte d’Ivoire.
The Super Eagles also clashed with Tanzania in their opening group match at the 2025 AFCON, securing a 2-1 victory. However, Madagascar recorded a 2-0 win over Nigeria during the group stage of the 2019 AFCON.
The 2027 tournament will be jointly hosted by Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda. As one of the co-hosts, Tanzania will automatically qualify from Group L, leaving only one qualification slot available for the remaining teams in the group.
A total of 24 teams will participate in the competition, with the top two teams from each of the 12 qualifying groups progressing to the tournament scheduled to hold from June 19 to July 17, 2027.
The qualification series will kick off with the first two matchdays between September 21 and October 6, 2026. Matchdays three and four are slated for November 9 to 17, 2026, while the final round of matches will take place between March 22 and 30, 2027.
Nigeria finished third at the 2025 AFCON hosted in Morocco. The Super Eagles are three-time African champions, with their last title coming in 2013.
