APC Adopts Direct Primary for 2026 Presidential Ticket Across 8,809 Wards - The Alternative News

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced that it will adopt a direct primary mode for its 2026 presidential primary election, allowing all registered members to vote across the country’s 8,809 wards.

The party disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, noting that the decision was approved by the National Working Committee (NWC) in line with the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act.

According to the guidelines, results from the 774 local government areas will be collated by designated officers, while state coordinators will supervise the exercise across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The APC stated that collated results would be presented to the presidential primary election committee in Abuja on May 24, 2026.

The party named former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Pius Anyim, as chairman of the presidential primary election committee.

Other members include former Senate President, Ken Nnamani; former Senate Leader, Victor Ndoma-Egba; former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara; and former Kogi State Governor, Idris Wada.

For the appeal committee, the APC appointed former Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari, as chairman.

Other members include Samuel Piwuna and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Patricia Etteh.

The party also announced state coordinators and collation officers for the exercise. Among those appointed are Hope Uzodimma for Imo, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for Kwara, Ahmadu Fintiri for Adamawa, and Babagana Zulum for Borno.

Others include Siminalayi Fubara for Rivers, Dauda Lawal for Zamfara, Teslim Folarin for Oyo, and Uche Ekwunife for Anambra.

The APC added that the list of coordinators includes governors and political leaders drawn from all 36 states and the FCT.
