The Katsina State Government has confirmed that Nura Aliyu Garwa, who is reportedly linked to a kidnapping syndicate, had earlier been suspended from his role as Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Community Development.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Bala Salisu Zango, the government explained that Garwa’s suspension was initially due to allegations involving the diversion of empowerment materials meant for communities in Batsari Local Government Area.
The statement further noted that Garwa had subsequently indicated interest in contesting for a seat in the Katsina State House of Assembly, representing Batsari LGA.
Reacting to the development, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda described the alleged involvement of the suspect in kidnapping activities as unfortunate. He expressed concern that an individual with a public profile and political ambition could be associated with such criminal allegations.
The governor also commended the Katsina State Police Command and other security agencies for their continued efforts in tackling insecurity and sustaining operations against criminal elements in the state.
It would be recalled that the police recently paraded suspects in connection with the abduction of an eight-year-old boy in Katsina metropolis, with reports linking the former aide to the syndicate.
The development has sparked serious concern among residents, highlighting ongoing security challenges and the need for stricter accountability within public office.
