Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and ex-Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, have called on Nigerians to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), as they advocate for a more inclusive and opportunity-driven society.
The duo formally joined the NDC on Sunday after exiting the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing uncertainties surrounding the party’s future following a ruling by the Supreme Court of Nigeria on April 30.
At the event, the NDC National Chairman, Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe, presented membership cards to both leaders.
Speaking afterward, Kwankwaso said their decision was driven by shared ideological values and a commitment to democratic principles. He urged supporters and well-meaning Nigerians to register with the party ahead of the membership deadline.
“We are determined to provide our people with a credible platform where they can thrive and realise their full potential,” he said, adding that the party represents a renewed push for good governance.
The meeting, held at the Abuja residence of Seriake Dickson, also provided an opportunity for engagement with party stakeholders.
In his remarks, Obi cautioned party members against internal disputes and litigation, warning that such actions could undermine efforts to build a strong political alternative ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“Please let there be no litigation. Party members, please don’t go to court. We want to build a party; we are not lawyers,” he said.
He further stressed the vision of creating a nation where merit and opportunity prevail, declaring: “We want to build a country where a child of nobody can be somebody without knowing anybody.”
Kwankwaso had earlier joined the ADC on March 30 after resigning from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), the platform on which he contested the 2023 presidential election.
