Obi, Kwankwaso to Join New Party Monday — NNPP Chieftain | The Alternative News

A chieftain of the New Nigeria People’s Party, Buba Galadima, has hinted at an imminent political realignment, disclosing that key opposition figures, including Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, are set to unveil a new political platform on Monday.

Galadima made the disclosure at a stakeholders’ meeting organised by the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement in Abuja, amid growing uncertainty over opposition coalitions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Although he did not officially name the platform, sources indicated that the former governors are concluding arrangements to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), reportedly linked to Seriake Dickson.

A source within the opposition camp, who spoke anonymously, confirmed that both leaders and their associates had been finalising documentation with the NDC leadership.

“Both Obi, Kwankwaso and their chieftains were on ground between yesterday and this morning signing the relevant documents with Senator Dickson and the NDC leaders,” the source said.

The source added that the move was partly to avoid a repeat of previous political alliances that were perceived to have been driven by individual ambitions.

“All is now set. Both Obi and Kwankwaso will announce their defection from the ADC on Monday,” he stated.

The planned development follows weeks of speculation regarding the political future of the opposition leaders, particularly after internal disputes and legal challenges affecting opposition parties.

Addressing journalists, Galadima cautioned supporters to prepare for possible backlash, including media attacks and online criticism following the announcement.

“As from Monday, when our leaders declare on which platform they will run, one of two things will happen. They will sponsor columnists or deploy social media influencers to attack our candidates,” he said.

He urged supporters, especially those active online, to respond strategically and intellectually to criticism.

Galadima also alleged that opposition figures have faced sustained pressure, claiming that security agencies had targeted and weakened several parties, including the PDP, ADC, SDP, NDP and PRP.

At the event, activist Aisha Yesufu called for unity across ethnic and regional divides, urging Nigerians to prioritise national cohesion.

“We must unite right now. When they tell you about generational hatred, ask them where it has led Nigeria. We are brothers and sisters,” she said.

Also speaking, Isaac Fayose expressed support for the proposed Obi-Kwankwaso alliance, describing it as a viable alternative ahead of the 2027 elections.
