The immediate past Lagos State Special Adviser on Housing, Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, has secured a landslide victory over incumbent lawmaker, Desmond Elliot, in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary for Surulere Constituency I.
Odunuga-Bakare, who is reportedly backed by the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, recorded a sweeping victory in the exercise held on Wednesday.
She polled a total of 11,385 votes, overwhelmingly defeating Elliot, who garnered 270 votes across the wards in the constituency.
A breakdown of the results showed strong support for Odunuga-Bakare across most polling centres. At Akinhanmi/Cole Ward, she secured 2,191 votes against Elliot’s 82 votes. In Yaba/Ojuelegba Ward, she polled 980 votes, while Elliot managed just three votes.
At Gbaja Stadium Ward, Odunuga-Bakare recorded 523 votes, with Elliot failing to secure any vote. However, the incumbent lawmaker posted his strongest showing at Shitta/Ogunlana Ward, where he polled 270 votes against Odunuga-Bakare’s 169 votes.
At Owolewa Open Field, Off Randle Avenue, Odunuga-Bakare garnered 1,956 votes, while Elliot secured 10 votes. Similarly, in Iponri/Eric Moore Ward, she polled 1,805 votes, with Elliot recording six votes.
The primary election witnessed a large turnout of party members, reflecting keen interest in the contest.
Elliot, who was first elected into the Lagos State House of Assembly in 2015, has represented Surulere Constituency I for multiple terms.
