A man identified as Bukunmi has reportedly died following a clash in Ilare-Ijesa, Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State, over the sharing of proceeds from a masquerade outing.
The incident, which occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Friday, was said to have stemmed from a disagreement between the deceased and another individual, Pelumi, over how the sum of N8,000 realised from the activity should be shared.
According to sources, a third individual, Femi, believed to be a relative of Pelumi, attempted to mediate and prevent the situation from escalating. However, Bukunmi allegedly struck him and warned him to stay out of the matter.
The development reportedly provoked Femi, who allegedly stabbed Bukunmi during the altercation. The victim was rushed to a hospital where he was later confirmed dead.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Osun State Police Command, Abiodun Ojelabi, said the police received information about a lifeless body at the scene.
He explained that by the time officers arrived, residents had already moved the body to a police station, where it was examined. Preliminary observations reportedly indicated a gunshot wound.
Ojelabi added that the remains had been deposited in a mortuary for autopsy, while investigations are ongoing.
He further disclosed that a suspect is currently in police custody and that additional security personnel have been deployed to the area to maintain peace.
