Oyo Abduction: Bandits will Face Full Wrath of the Law - Tinubu Vows

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reacted to the abduction of teachers and schoolchildren in Oyo State, assuring residents that security agencies are making concerted efforts to rescue all victims.

In a statement issued on Monday, the President condemned the killing of one of the abducted teachers, describing the incident as cruel, tragic, and unacceptable.

The attack occurred last Friday when armed men stormed the Esiele community in Oriire Local Government Area, abducting staff and pupils from Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School.

President Tinubu disclosed that security operations are ongoing in the affected area, with efforts intensified to secure the safe release of the victims and apprehend the perpetrators, including collaborators within the community.

He sympathised with Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, the state government, and families affected by the incident, assuring them of the Federal Government’s continued support until all abductees are safely rescued.

The President also commended the Nigeria Police Force, particularly the Inspector-General of Police and police commands in Oyo and Kwara states, for their swift response. He noted that tactical units and operatives of the Intelligence Response Team were promptly deployed to carry out rescue operations.

According to him, the Inspector-General of Police is personally overseeing the operation following directives from the Presidency, expressing confidence that the security agencies will soon achieve breakthroughs and bring those responsible to justice.

President Tinubu further stressed that the rising cases of kidnapping across parts of the country underscore the urgent need for the establishment of state police.

He called on the National Assembly of Nigeria to expedite legislative processes that would enable states to establish their own policing systems.
