Twelve persons have been confirmed dead following a late-night attack on Ngbra Zongo community in Kwall District of Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The Plateau State Police Command disclosed that the victims were buried in a mass grave shortly after the incident, which occurred in the early hours of Friday.

According to the command’s spokesperson, Alabo Alfred, the police received reports indicating that 12 individuals lost their lives during the attack.

“From the information we received, 12 people were killed in the attack and the victims had already been buried this morning,” he said, expressing sadness over the development but declining to provide further details.

Reports from the community revealed that the assailants struck around midnight while residents were asleep, leaving at least 13 persons affected, including three pregnant women.

A community member, Philip Alanga, said the attackers fired sporadically, causing panic and forcing residents to flee their homes.

Reacting to the incident, Danjuma Auta, Secretary-General of the Irigwe Development Association, decried the recurring attacks in Bassa LGA and other parts of the state.

He called on security agencies to urgently track down the perpetrators and ensure justice is served, stressing the need for decisive action to prevent further violence in the area.
