Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has reiterated his administration's commitment in ensuring that traditional institutions continue to occupy their rightful position in the governance of the State.
The Governor stated this during the official installation and presentation of staff of office to the new Oludotun of Idotun, Oba Adeyemi Opeaye, in Ikenne Local Government Area.
Represented by the Commissioner, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat, the Governor said the selection followed strict due process as prescribed by the Obas and Chiefs’ Law of Ogun State, 2021 and the 2004 Registered Chieftaincy Declaration of Oludotun of Idotun, noting that adhering to these legal frameworks was essential for the peaceful and continuous development of the community.
The Governor charged the new Monarch to prioritise acceleration of socio-economic development in his domain by mobilising his subjects to support government policies and fulfill their civic responsibilities.
"I charge all sons and daughters of the Idotun community to accord the new Monarch all required support and cooperation necessary to launch the community to enviable heights among its peers," the Governor said.
In his remarks, Chairman, Ikenne Local Government Area, Hon. Jamiu Asimi, appreciated the Governor for his unwavering support to the Local government for approving the appointment of the new monarch.
Asimi, noted that while the traditional institution was bound to face numerous challenges, such hurdles would be surmounted through the collective support of the people and the exceptional qualities of the new monarch, whom he described as a leader of transformative vision, forthrightness and strong character.
Also speaking at the event, the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, congratulated the newly installed monarch, urging him to foster peace, unity and tranquility within his domain and its environs.
In his acceptance speech, Oba Opeaye, expressed gratitude to the Governor for demonstrating justice, sincerity and administrative integrity in recognising and reaffirming the traditional stool of the Idotun kingdom.
The Monarch pledged his dedication to the peace, progress and cultural values of the land, promising to lead with fairness and integrity, while calling on all indigenes of Idotun, both at home and in the diaspora to unite behind the vision of rebuilding the kingdom, adding that collective sacrifice and love for their heritage would usher in unprecedented development.
