Human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, has emerged as the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) for the 2027 general election.
Naija News reports that Sowore was declared the winner during the party’s presidential primary held on Tuesday in Abuja, following a unanimous endorsement by delegates and party leaders present at the exercise.
In a symbolic moment marking his victory, Sowore was presented with the party’s flag amid loud cheers and applause from supporters and delegates at the venue.
Speaking after accepting the nomination, Sowore said the AAC was founded to pursue the vision of building a new Nigeria, stressing the party’s commitment to transformative governance.
He expressed appreciation to delegates from across the country for what he described as their sacrifice, perseverance, and dedication to the party’s ideals.
According to him, the party remains resolute in confronting corruption, insecurity, poor governance, and economic hardship affecting Nigerians.
The primary attracted party members and delegates from different parts of the country, as political parties intensify preparations ahead of the 2027 elections.
Sowore’s arrival at the venue was greeted with excitement, as supporters praised his activism and advocacy for accountability, social justice, and good governance.
During a recent interview on Politics Today on Channels Television, Sowore emphasized the need for a complete departure from what he described as the “same failed political class.”
When asked about his intention to contest again, he responded affirmatively, noting that the final decision ultimately rested with party delegates and members participating in the primary process.
