Armed bandits on Friday night attacked a mosque in Unguwan Namama village, Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State, killing one worshipper and abducting several others.
The attack occurred despite claims by the Kaduna State Government that significant progress has been made in curbing banditry in the state.
According to reports, the assailants stormed the mosque at about 8 p.m. while prayers were ongoing and opened fire on worshippers, causing panic and chaos in the area.
Several persons sustained gunshot injuries during the incident and were rushed to hospital for treatment.
The deceased has been identified as Adamu Ibraheem. His relative, Abubakar Abdullahi, confirmed the development in a message made available to the media.
Sources said the attackers laid siege to the area and began shooting at worshippers as they exited the mosque, leading to multiple casualties.
The exact number of those abducted and injured remains unclear.
