Retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information, has reportedly been killed while in captivity after being abducted by bandits in Katsina State.
The State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasir Mu’azu Danmusa, confirmed the development on Saturday, stating that security authorities had received intelligence indicating that the retired officer was killed by his abductors.
However, Danmusa noted that security operatives have yet to recover the body, adding that efforts are ongoing to locate his remains.
Abubakar was abducted alongside his wife on May 30 along the Matazu axis of Katsina State while travelling through the area.
His abduction had sparked widespread concern, with the state government and security agencies earlier expressing optimism that he would be rescued alive.
Further details are expected as security operations continue.
